SAN DIEGO COUNTY

San Diego Bay

Nov. 5 • 1:40 p.m. San Diego Harbor Police officers responded to a report of a boater littering in the bay. The boater was reportedly performing repairs on his boat without proper environmental protection, near Chula Vista. A report was filed.

Nov. 8 • 10:55 p.m. Harbor Police officers responded to a report of an intoxicated man near the Shelter Island launch ramp. Officers determined the man was unable to care for himself and arrested him on charges of public intoxication.

Nov. 11 • 8 a.m. Harbor Police officers responded to a report of two bicycles stolen from a vessel near Harbor Island. A report was filed.

Nov. 11 • 5:20 p.m. Harbor Police divers assisted Coronado police in a search for evidence, after a stolen vehicle was reportedly driven into the bay near the Coronado launch ramp. No further evidence was located, and the vehicle was towed out of the bay.

Nov. 14 • 8:30 a.m. Harbor Police officers responded to a report of a burglary aboard a vessel near Glorietta Bay. About $1,000 worth of property was reported taken.

ORANGE COUNTY

Dana Point Harbor
Nov. 2 • 4:45 p.m.
Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a capsized catamaran at Monarch Bay. The vessel was towed by friends of the boat owner, in a rowboat.

Nov. 4 • 8:41 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of powerboat adrift off Doheny State Beach. The vessel was towed to the west anchorage area.

Nov. 4 • 2:22 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted a 40-foot catamaran that reportedly lost power at the harbor entrance. The vessel was towed to the west anchorage.

Nov. 9 • 8:21 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a fuel spill at a dock on East Basin Island. Officers contacted the owner of the boat thought to be the source of the spill, who stated he had just purchased the vessel five hours earlier. He said he was aware of the leak and was returning from Laguna Beach.

Nov. 12 • 9:39 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted the owner of a 28-foot sailboat with resetting the vessel’s anchor off the bait barge.

Newport Harbor
Nov. 3 • 5:07 p.m.
Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a 28-foot sportfisher sinking with three people on board near N Street. The vessel was able to continue to Newport Island, with a slow leak.

Nov. 4 • 1:27 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a paddleboat adrift off Bay Island and heading east.

Nov. 6 • 8:41 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted a boat near the 3300 block of Pacific Coast Highway.

Nov. 8 • 6:11 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a vessel stuck in the mud near the Pacific Coast Highway bridge. The vessel was freed.

Nov. 12 • 11:08 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a kayak adrift off the No. 6 marker.

Nov. 14 • 3:08 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a fuel spill at a harbor marina. A diesel sheen with absorbent pads floating on top of it was reported near the Lido Bridge area. However, while officers at the scene found a small amount of diesel, they walked the docks at Lido and determined that the “pads” were actually just foam on the water.

Sunset/Huntington Harbour
Nov. 2 • 6:20 p.m.
Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol officers assisted with towing a 24-foot vessel from the surf to the launch ramp.

Nov. 5 • 7:14 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a boat accident at the entrance.

Nov. 10 • 3:45 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers assisted with a boat tow at the outer harbor.

Nov. 12 • 5:43 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a boat accident at Bolsa Chica near Seapointe.

LOS ANGELES COUNTY

Marina del Rey

Nov. 9 • 6:26 p.m. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Marine Enforcement deputies, along with a Coast Guard boarding team, conducted numerous boat stops in the area. Three citations were issued for equipment violations.

Nov. 10 • 10:03 p.m. Marine Enforcement deputies arrested one man during a boat stop. Deputies transferred him to the Marina del Rey station.

Nov. 12 • 1:23 a.m. Marine Enforcement deputies stopped a boat in the main channel and cited the owner for failing to have proper lighting.

Nov. 12 • 1:14 p.m. Marine Enforcement deputies, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Marina del Rey deputies and Coast Guard personnel towed a Mexican panga suspected of being involved in smuggling.

VENTURA COUNTY

Channel Islands Harbor
Nov. 3 • 6:20 a.m.
Channel Islands Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a 25-foot powerboat disabled in the main channel. The vessel was taken in tow and released at the fuel dock.

Nov. 3 • 4 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a person in the water at Fisherman’s Wharf. When officers arrived on scene, the subject had already exited the water. Officers followed the wet footsteps to a doughnut shop, where the subject was found. No medical attention was needed. The subject was detained by Oxnard police.

Nov. 6 • 7:15 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a capsized vessel off Silverstrand Beach. According to reports, the boat’s operator swam ashore and reached a nearby house. Oxnard Fire Department, Gold Coast Ambulance and Harbor Patrol personnel responded to the residence, and the boater was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. The 16-foot skiff was removed from the beach by the owner, the next day.

Nov. 10 • 7:50 a.m. Harbor Patrol, Oxnard Fire Department and Gold Coast Ambulance personnel responded to a diabetic emergency at Peninsula Yacht Marina. The patient was evaluated at the scene but declined medical treatment.

Ventura Harbor
Oct. 31 • 8:50 a.m.
Ventura Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report from maintenance that the gate to the dry storage lot had been damaged. A paint transfer was spotted on a boat in the facility. According to officers, the boat’s owner was contacted, admitted to causing the damage and paid for repairs to the gate.

Nov. 2 • 6:40 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers were dispatched to a call for medical assistance on a vessel. Upon arrival, officers found the boater asleep, but in need of medical aid. The boater was taken from the vessel and transported to a local hospital.

Nov. 3 • 12:46 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of an intoxicated person having difficulty recovering his vessel. Officers reportedly determined that the man was likely intoxicated and notified Ventura Police Department personnel. The man was arrested on charges of driving under the influence.

Nov. 6 • 7:56 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers reportedly observed the contents of a marine head being discharged from a commercial vessel. Officers issued a citation to a crewmember on the vessel.

Nov. 6 • 8:45 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers observed a significant amount of a soapy substance. Fire Department personnel were dispatched and investigated the situation. The soapy substance dissipated.

Nov. 6 • 2:40 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers removed a hazard to navigation and placed it on land, by the launch ramp.

Nov. 12 • 8:15 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers fouled their boat prop on a line from a hoop-net that was illegally placed near the breakwater. Upon clearing the line, officers began removing several illegally placed hoop-nets. They were contacted by the hoop-nets’ owner, and officers issued him a citation.

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY
Nov. 5 • 1 p.m.
Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol officers responded to numerous reports of a large sailboat dragging anchor in strong winds in the year-round anchorage. At the scene, officers found two local men aboard the boat attempting to deploy more anchor gear, but they were unsuccessful. Officers passed a towline, the two men left in a skiff and officers towed the vessel safely to a slip.

Nov. 6 • 3:45 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report of a person in the water near the harbor entrance. At the scene, officers found a man in the water trying to get gear gathered up from his dismasted windsurfer. The man was taken aboard the patrol boat and transported to the beach. No injuries were reported.

Nov. 6 • 4:20 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers responded to a report and initiated a search with the Coast Guard and Carpinteria Fire Department for a missing windsurfer. The windsurfer who was aided in the earlier incident assumed his friend had already made it safely ashore — but when he got to the parking lot, he did not find him there. Officers began a search, which was canceled when the missing windsurfer phoned his friend from the beach and reported his safe arrival.

Nov. 9 • 11:30 a.m. Harbor Patrol officers checked on the status of two small dolphins swimming in one of the back channels of the marina, after receiving numerous calls of concern.  The mammals were swimming well and appeared in no distress. The Marine Mammal Center was contacted, as were National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration marine mammal coordinators and special agents.

Nov. 10 • 12:30 p.m. Harbor Patrol officers removed six barrels of diesel fuel from a dilapidated 84-year-old wooden boat and prepared it for haulout. Officers towed the vessel to a Travelift. The boat was turned in by its owner under the state’s vessel turn-in program. A private contractor destroyed and disposed of the boat.
