SiriusXM Marine Offers Offshore Entertainment Option

For boaters who want to add entertainment to their time on the water, SiriusXM Marine offers an optional Music & Entertainment package in addition to its weather and Fish Mapping services. The subscription provides access to more than 150 channels of music, sports, news, talk, and comedy, delivered via satellite to compatible marine electronics.

“SiriusXM’s satellite coverage extends up to 150 nautical miles offshore, depending on location and antenna configuration,” said Lauren Latona of SiriusXM Marine. “The entertainment subscription is a separate subscription from weather or Fish Mapping, but if you add it to an existing account with a weather or Fish Mapping subscription, you’ll receive $5 off per month. Entertainment subscribers get over 150 channels of satellite-delivered music, sports, news, comedy, and talk.”

The package includes ad-free music channels across multiple genres and decades, artist-curated stations, two Howard Stern channels with video, live sports coverage including NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, and NASCAR, as well as news, talk programming, and podcasts. “SiriusXM channels are playing 24/7,” Latona explained. “That includes live sports broadcasts, curated music playlists, special guest shows and DJ sessions, breaking news and talk shows. It’s the same content enjoyed on land — no changes for offshore listeners.”

While entertainment is a primary feature, Latona noted the system’s role in enhancing awareness when paired with SiriusXM Marine’s weather and fishing data. “This viewpoint changes quickly the first time someone avoids a squall, finds a productive fishing area, or keeps their guests comfortable using SiriusXM Marine,” she said. “While it does offer luxury in the form of entertainment, SiriusXM Marine is weather and fishing information delivered via satellite where other systems can’t if you’re boating offshore.”

She also clarified that the service is not a replacement for communication or emergency devices. “SiriusXM isn’t a communication device,” Latona said. “It does though enhance situational awareness, which is a critical part of safety.”

Latona outlined how a charter operator might use the system during a two-day trip. “Before you get to the boat or the night before: Use the Fish Mapping App, which is included free with a Fish Mapping subscription, to plan where you’re going, optimizing time and fuel. While getting the boat ready: Check the service on your MFD to confirm where you’re heading to fish based on the updated data. Check the weather on your MFD to make a go/no-go decision. During the run: Play satellite-delivered music, sports, news or talk radio offshore to keep guests engaged. Monitor wind, wave, and storm cell data, etc. to help you navigate safely and make any needed course adjustments. While fishing: Play music to enhance the atmosphere for your guests. Continue to track the fishing areas and weather. On the return trip: Continue tracking the weather to ensure you’re avoiding any bad weather.”
