A little weather blip at the beginning of the week mixed things up for a few days along the beach for the 1/2-day guys.
After things settled, the 1/2-day fleet saw some bass action on the sinker setups. Carolina rigs fished well with strip baits of squid or mackerel. Anglers using shrimp did well on the sheephead, and some bass were caught on the live baits as well.
The 3/4-day anglers have been on the rockfish program. Deep on the 14 has continued to be the best zone. Good conditions made fishing 600–800 feet totally doable with 16-ounce sinkers. Solid quality on the chilies, bankies, and other mixed rockfish. Anglers choosing to fish jigs have continued to see excellent results too, with 250–350 gram jigs being the best bet. Well over half the time, these jig guys are getting stopped on the way to the bottom, with the fish really spread up through the water column.
At SCI, the Fury has worked hard to keep that quality yellowtail in their counts. Up late making bait and then parlaying that into a solid morning bite has been the deal. Nice yellows in the 18–30 lb range have been the grade of fish they’ve been working over. In the kelp, the calico bass have been biting a bit too, and the whitefish and rockfish have been in the mix for them as well.
Looks like a pretty good week of weather ahead!
